The Westland Lysander was a remarkable aircraft. Designed and built in the mid 30’s for army cooperation, it could perform its spotting duties to perfection. The Lysander’s sophisticated wing design gave it the ability to take off and land on short improvised battlefield runways. The only problem was it was designed for the realities of the last war. Anti-aircraft fire and the speedy German fighters of WWII devoured the slow flying Lysander over France.
But the Lizzie wasn’t finished yet. The Lysander would perform many important roles for the Allies in the years to come. As an encore, this versatile aircraft would make a stealthy return to France in the most secret of missions.
